Sunshine Coast Beaches

Sunshine Coast is a popular destination for those wishing to experience beach side holidays. The stretches of white sands and crystal blue waters in the area is one of its major tourism attractions, not to mention the prevalence of temperate climate the whole year through.

Most of the beaches have shallow parts that are safe for children to frolic and swim in. However, to ensure the safety of all, professional lifeguards and volunteers from the Surf Life Saving Clubs patrol the beaches on regular basis.

At Caloundra, two beaches are situated across the northern end of Bribie Island and are protected by the island’s sand bars. These make the Golden Beach and the Bulcock Beach long-time favorites for the whole family, with its calm and shallow waters. The former is particularly popular among windsurfers. There are also facilities for playground and picnics located nearby.

Caloundra’s other beach, the Kings Beach, faces the Pacific Ocean and is ideal for surfing. For those who do not wish to frolic in the waves can make use of the saltwater swimming pool located on its northern end.

When visiting Dicky Beach, visitors should watch out for the wreck of the S.S. Dicky. Apart from swimming, the beach is also ideal for sunbathing and surfing. Shady areas around the beach are utilized as picnic and play grounds.

Further north is Mooloolaba, where visitors can enjoy all that the sand and surf can offer. Those who would like to stay dry but still enjoy the fantastic coastal views can take strolls along the boardwalk and make use of the numerous picnic tables provided. There are also several cafes and restaurants along the area to provide refreshments and tasty dishes.

Visitors can also take walks to Alexandra Headland, where there are plenty of opportunities for water sports. Families and groups of friends can also take advantage of shady picnic spots and barbecue facilities provided to the public.

Going north, one arrives at Maroochydore, where the mouth of the Maroochydore River is located. The estuary provides a safe swimming spot for children, while fishing and boating can also be indulged. There are also numerous parklands and areas suitable for picnics along the riverbanks. The ocean-facing beach is a popular destination for surfers hoping to catch that perfect wave.

The long stretch of sand located in Twin Waters is where one can enjoy relative peace and quiet during most of the year. Those wishing to escape the holiday crowds can come to this area and soak in its tranquility. The beach is regularly patrolled, to ensure safety at all times.

The Peregian Environmental Park is located north of Twin Waters and features several walks along its pristine beachfront areas. There are plenty of spots for picnics and barbecues, with the bush land and the coast providing idyllic backdrops. Nearby are the Peregian Beach and the Coolum Beach.

Those who don’t mind crowds and want to spend their holidays in world-class resorts should head out to Noosa Heads, a well known tourist destination. Apart from its beautiful beaches, there is also the nearby Noosa National Park, where visitors can go bushwalking and bird watching.

Sunshine Beach, located on the northern end of the Sunshine Coast, is also ideal for swimming and surfing. More popularly, though, is the function of the beach as gateway to Fraser Island, considered to be the world’s largest sand island. It is also listed with the World Heritage, making it a major tourist destination of the country.
